DIY Lip Scrub!

Greetings Fellow Oilers!
I haven't done a DIY in a while so I thought I would share what I recently did using essential oils.
My lips were very cracked, peely and  not pretty at all, which was due to the colder weather and change of season. So I did some research and found this great lip scrub recipe!
What's fun is you can personalize it..... I used coconut sugar instead of regular sugar, just because I thought it would be a nice combination with the coconut oil. Because of its coarseness it really makes a nice scrub.:D And that is just my own example, you can add different EO's and such to make it your own personal Lip Scrub!
My lips truly feel so much different and softer and I haven't even been using this scrub a week!

Let me know if you try it and if so what personal changes you make to it and how your lips like it.:)

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon organic raw coconut oil
  • 3 teaspoons organic coarse sugar (I used coconut sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (if vegan, agave would work well here as well)
  • 5 drops essential oil*
*I used spearmint, so refreshing and a great smell for the holidays. I think orange would be wonderful as well.
How to:
Combine all ingredients (you may need to melt the coconut oil on the stove top or in the microwave) and place in a storage container of your choosing. The jar I used was actually a jam jar that I cleaned out and repurposed. I put it in the fridge for a couple hours to harden up and then I took it out and now keep it in my bathroom cupboards; where it is a creamy scrub. I use wooden Popsicle sticks to apply it which I found at Hobby Lobby!

Hope you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving!

"Life Saving Oil Stories" from our weekend vacation!

Well we are back from vacation! We had such a lovely time, it was one of the most relaxing and productive vacation we have had in a long time. It was so nice to get away from internet, blogging, social media, school, chores, ordinary life and just time to reflect on God's grace and mercy to us.:)
Ok, so back to oils! Well they basically saved my life.....

One of our dear friends started losing her voice from all the dust and altitude change of the camp, she also had some jet lag. She didn't believe in essential oils either so I did my best to prove her wrong.:) I made her some fantastic tea. I added some R.C, Raven, Lemon and Purification along with some honey with one of our favorite tea blends! I didn't get to try it but from her face it was clear it wasn't as pleasing to her taste buds as I thought it would be, but in the morning her voice was much better and she never lost it again!!!

I personally enjoy volleyball and hiking but I am not naturally athletic or good at it, but I am a pretty determined person and rarely give up or in.:) So I managed to bruise my finger and majorly scrape my arm. I was trying to climb up a big rock/boulder, so as soon as I got home I applied lavender to the bruise. Then to the scrape I applied Clara Derm and Animal Scents Ointment. Both of them healed beautifully and stopped the pain.

Our final vacation day was full of hiking and lake activities. So I decided to go on the longer hike for the first time which I was super excited about and so I made sure to pack lots of essential oils. I took Peppermint, Lavender and Geranium. As well as some bug spray and sunscreen.
We used sunscreen right from the start. Then one of our dear friends is a diabetic and she was a having some blood sugar trouble on that day. So her ankles were swelling and she quickly went up to another shoe size within 30 minutes. On our breaks during the hike I applied Peppermint to her ankles 3 times. By the time we were getting ready to head back her foot had already reduced in size and the pain was almost gone. Praise God!

As I mentioned in a previous post I made some Thieves Hand Sanitizer for the trip. The last three days of the trip we lost all the water supply for our toilets and shower and had only about 4 bathrooms for the whole camp(around 150) so we ran out of soap and sanitation very quickly.:) So I used the hand cleaner practically every day and defiantly more then once!

This by all means are not all the life saving stories but defiantly the major highlights.:)
I hope to have encouraged you to use your oils more often and in every life situations!

Blessing on your day,
~Hannah

An Oilers Musing: Animal Scents for a Cut, Making After- Sun Oil, Thieves Hand Sanitizer, Organizing my Oils and off to Vaca!

Hello Friends,
This weekend we are going to be gone at our church's family camp! Thus lot's of DIY's this week.:) So enjoy!

Monday: I cut the top of my foot on Sunday so when we got home from church  I immediately put some Animal Scents Ointment on it and within minutes it took the pain away and started the healing process. The ointment is really amazing, have you tried it yet?
I am defiantly going to include this in my essential oil stash for this weekend.:)

Tuesday: We are getting prepared for our camping trip this weekend so I made some after- sun oil. You can find the recipe here.

Wednesday: I made some Thieves hand sanitizes, not only for camp but also just to have on hand. You can find the recipe here.
Easy thieves hand sanitizer

Thursday: I organized all of my oils!!! I put them on a excel spread sheet in alphabetical order and placed these labels from Young Living in my order for this month. Hopefully they will stay organized longer then last time.:)

Friday: We are off to the mountains, so happy holiday weekend everyone!

I will fill you in about our adventures with oils whilst camping and any "oil life saving" stories when we have returned.

Happy oiling,
~Hannah

After- Sun Oil

Happy Wednesday Friends,
I don't normally post in the middle of the week, but as I was preparing to mix up a batch of this oil mixture for our weekend camping trip I thought it would be worth posting.

After- Sun Oil

Lavender: 10 drops
Roman Chamomile: 5 drops
Purification: 8 drops
Geranium: 2 drops

Dilute in...
Almond or V-6 oil : 1/4 cup

Directions: Apply all over the body after showering or bathing.

This has been an invaluable recipe to have on hand. We use it a lot. It is for those that have forgotten sunscreen or did not reapply it in time. But either way it is a soothing and refreshing oil to put on after a long day in the sun!

Enjoy and Happy Oiling,
~Hannah

Easy Essential Oil Bug Spray

As I mentioned in a post sometime ago my   brother went on an all day hike a couple weeks ago. I was so thrilled to have the opportunity  to try a new bug spray recipe and have him test it out!
He said it worked so good that they didn't have one bug encounter their whole hike.:) Or maybe it was just because it wasn't bug season there?!
Anyway the mixture smells divine and it seemed to stay on the skin for a good while. I will be able to try it better at our church's upcoming Family Camp.
I looked for a while for a good and easy bug spray online and decided this was the best one. Mainly because it didn't call for Vodka (which we didn't have, and I didn't want to buy it just for bug spray.:)) and it used  a lot of essential oils which some other recipes didn't, also I love the clean feeling of witch hazel on skin!
Let me know if you all try it.
Do you have a favorite bug spray mixture using essential oils?

Easy Bug Spray
12 drops Purification
8 drops Peppermint
6 drops Lavender
4 drops Thieves
1/2 ounce witch hazel (optional – gives it staying power)
Filtered water

4 oz glass or stainless steel spray bottle
Put the essential oil drops in first, then add the witch hazel if you choose and fill with filtered water. Shake well, spray liberally and feel good about the fact you are not covering yourself in toxic chemicals.
Enjoy!
Happy oiling,
~Hannah

An Oilers Musing: Animal Scents Ointment, Ortho Sport Massage Oil, Diffusing Joy for Pilates, Making Thieves Toothpaste (again) and Relieve It with Aromaglides!

Happy Saturday!!!
I hope you all had a wonderful week. I can't believe summer is almost over! How was your summer?

This week was quite adventurous .....

Monday: Our cat got in a fight or something with another cat and came home with his leg covered in blood and a big cut.  So after accessing it I got out Young Living Animal Scents and applied the salve to his wound. By Tuesday the wound was almost gone and looked very much healed! Yeaaaaaa! If you have not tried YL Animal Scents it is great stuff. Not only is it great for your animals but also for ruff and craked heels.  That is what I originally bought it for and it worked amazing with that as well. So once again a win, win!!!

Tuesday: I got to use the Ortho Sport Massage oil for myself and my brother.  I had a really bad headache and my brother legs have been bothering him as well. So we both doesed ourselves in the massage oil.:)

Wednesday: I brought my diffuser to our Pilates class and diffused Joy. Our Pilates teacher loved the smell of it. I was so happy as I am in love with Joy as of late! It was so wonderful to be inhaling it well doing the class.

Thursday: I made our favorite toothpaste with  Thieves Essential oil you can find the recipe here. Our family loves it! Let me know if you try it.

Friday: My Mom got home from her Pilates class and said she felt like she pulled a muscle in her back.): Sadly we were out of Peppermint (very unusual), so I got out our Relieve It that I had previously attached some roll-ons that you can find here. I have found these very handy as some oils I like placing the roll-ons on the bottles to created a more relaxing massage sensations. Have you tried YL's aromaglides yet?

Have you had a good week experiencing essential oils?

What oil saved you family life's this week? I love hearing "oil life saving" stories.:)

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow!

Happy oiling,

~Hannah

Homemade Remineralizing Toothpaste Recipe with Essential Oils

Hello Fellow Oilers!
One of my biggest pet peeves is that of discolored or stained looking teeth. And for some reason I have never found a toothpaste that makes my teeth nice and white and I have tried a lot.:) I have used Tom of Maine, a Trader Joes brand, then I even switched over to Colgate from Costco, and that still didn't whiten them. I even would swish coconut oil in my mouth for a couple minutes after brushing my teeth and that didn't even work.):
Then one of our friends sent me this recipe and after seeing their teeth after a week of using it I immediately made some and now I am needing to make a second batch.:) I love this toothpaste. It is really easy to make and so good!

There is a lot of emerging information about tooth remineralization, a process that many dentists previously thought was impossible. This article goes into detail about the science behind tooth reminerlization and the dietary steps necessary also. (It also explains why ingredients in most toothpastes, even natural ones, can demineralize teeth and cause tooth decay!)
The information I found in researching this was mirrored by my own experience over the last few months with natural toothpastes.
I’ve noticed definite changes in my teeth over the last few weeks. My teeth are whiter than they’ve ever been and everyone who I’ve have talked to about there use of this toothpaste has remarked that it makes their teeth feel very clean.
This recipe is kid-approved, and since it has no fluoride, its safe on babies, toddlers, and those with thyroid problems.
If you want to whiten teeth, improve an oral health problem or just try a natural alternative to commercial toothpastes that contain harmful ingredients, definitely try making this toothpaste!
natural homemade remineralizing toothpaste ingredients Homemade Remineralizing Toothpaste Recipe

Homemade Remineralizing Toothpaste Ingredients:

  • 5 Tablespoon: Calcium powder
  • 1 Tablespoon: Diatomaceous Earth (optional- contains trace minerals and silica. UPDATE: A was reading another article about this and it noted that DE can be abrasive and is not needed with the baking soda, so if you don’t have DE… no worries!)
  • 2 Tablespoon: Baking Soda
  • 3 Tablespoon: Xylitol Powder- This ingredient is not completely necessary, but just keeps it from tasting bitter.
  • 3-5 Tablespoon or 1/4 cup : coconut oil to get desired texture
  • Your Favorite Essential Oil(s): Best for flavor: Peppermint, cinnamon, purification, clove and orange are all good. My favorite is Thieves! We all loved the Thieves Toothpaste that Young Living offered, but it was just to expensive for our family to keep on ordering.): So I was overjoyed when I saw that I could make my own for a fraction of the cost. I did 6-9 drops of Thieves. It was so good!!
How To Make Natural Remineralizing Toothpaste
1. Mix all powdered ingredients (calcium, Baking Soda, Xylitol) well in a bowl. If you are starting with calcium tablets, powder them in a food processor. If you are starting with capsules, dump them out into the bowl.
2.. Add Coconut Oil one tablespoon at a time until you get desired consistency.
3. Add Essential Oils for flavor! Make sure they are only Young Living's see why here.
4. Store in small container like 1/2 pint glass jar. To use, either dip clean toothbrush into it, or use Popsicle stick or spoon to put on toothbrush. I’ve also thought of storing in a plastic bag with a corner cut off to be able to squeeze like toothpaste, but haven’t tried it yet.

I hope you will love the toothpaste as much as our family is. Let me know if you try it and your experience with it.

Until Friday!

Happy oiling,
~Hannah
